GLADES COUNTY — No Kid Hungry Florida has named its 2025 Summer Hunger Heroes, the individuals whose superpower is connecting kids to healthy meals throughout the summer and tackling child hunger.
Mark Wilson, food service supervisor at the Glades County District Office, is one of six individuals being recognized for going above and beyond to make sure kids get the nutrition they need during the summer.
Each summer, Mark puts the kids in Glades County first, managing meal program operations and logistics, and making sure the summer program runs smoothly and efficiently during the busiest time of year.
“Mr. Wilson does whatever it takes to make sure students get fed. He secured extra transportation, brought in additional meals for June and July, and arranged forklifts from local companies to unload food pallets,” said Jessica Perez, food and nutrition services manager at West Glades School. “He cares deeply, even when short-staffed, he stayed behind instead of going on a planned family trip to Disney to make sure our mission was achieved. In his three years with Glades County, he’s given up vacation time every year to ensure children are fed. For him, it’s all about the kids.”
The summer can be a difficult time for many kids. Individuals like Mark play a major role in ensuring kids return to school well nourished and ready to learn.
“We’re proud to honor Mark Wilson for his unwavering commitment to feeding children in his community,” said Anais Rice, program associate of No Kid Hungry Florida. “His dedication not only helps families stretch their grocery budgets but also ensures kids have reliable access to healthy meals throughout the summer.”
No Kid Hungry thanks all its Summer Hunger Heroes and everyone working year-round to keep kids fed and healthy.
